Try padel for free at Tipton Sports Academy this December

Residents across Sandwell are invited to experience one of the world’s fastest-growing sports for free, as Tipton Sports Academy hosts a special Open Padel Day on Saturday 6 December.

Padel has grown rapidly in popularity across Europe and is now becoming a major participation sport here in the UK. Tipton Sports Academy on Wednesbury Oak Road is leading the way locally, offering three indoor courts that allow players to enjoy the sport all year round.

A free introduction to a growing sport
The Open Padel Day runs from 9.30am to 1pm and is open to all ages and abilities. Visitors can take part in coaching taster sessions, friendly practice matches and fun challenges designed to help new players learn the basics of the game.

Refreshments and street food will be available to purchase throughout the event, and a DJ will help create a lively and welcoming atmosphere for families, friends and players.

A growing investment in sport and wellbeing
The courts at Tipton Sports Academy opened in the summer following a £155,000 investment by KORE Sandwell, formerly Sandwell Leisure Trust, which manages eight leisure centres on behalf of Sandwell Council. Padel has been embraced by the local community due to its accessibility, social nature and ease of learning.

Mark Wildman, Head of Operations at Kore and one of our Sandwell Business Ambassadors, welcomed the continued interest in the sport. He said:

“Padel is a fantastic way for people of all ages to get active, socialise and try something new. We are proud to offer this facility in Sandwell and look forward to welcoming even more residents to the Open Padel Day.”

About padel
Padel blends elements of tennis and squash and is played on a smaller court enclosed with glass walls. It is typically played in doubles using underarm serves and a tennis-style scoring system. Thanks to its simple rules and fast-paced rallies, the sport has attracted a global following, with more than eight million players across Europe.
