Sandwell Business Ambassadors explore the value of social impact

At a recent meeting of Sandwell Business Ambassadors, members explored a simple question: what can businesses gain from giving back?

The discussion was led by guest speaker Kim Fuller, from Sandwell’s charity sector support organisation SCVO, who highlighted the mutual benefits that can be created when businesses and charities work together locally.

Supporting communities while strengthening businesses

Sandwell is home to more than 1,000 charitable organisations, many of which rely on business support such as donations, sponsorship and volunteering. While these contributions clearly benefit charities and communities, Kim highlighted that businesses themselves also stand to gain.

Local charities deliver a wide range of services that can support employee wellbeing, help people stay in work and provide access to activities that reduce stress, isolation and burnout. For employers, this can translate into healthier teams, improved morale and reduced absence.

Corporate volunteering was also highlighted as a valuable tool for professional development, team building and strengthening company culture, it also enhances a business’s reputation.

Connecting businesses with local opportunities

SCVO plays a key role in connecting businesses with charities, helping to create partnerships that are practical and mutually beneficial. This can range from skills-based volunteering and long-term partnerships to one-off activities such as socially focused team building days.
