Merry Christmas from the Sandwell Business Ambassadors

As the year draws to a close, the Sandwell Business Ambassadors would like to wish Sandwell’s business community a very Merry Christmas and a successful New Year. We look forward to continuing our work in 2026, supporting businesses to grow sustainably, buy responsibly and ensure that economic growth delivers real benefits for people and communities across the borough.

Reflecting on the year

Throughout 2025, the Sandwell Business Ambassadors have been active in championing the needs of local businesses.

Earlier this year, the Ambassadors visited Westminster to meet with Sandwell’s Members of Parliament, raising key concerns affecting local businesses, including rising costs, regulatory pressures, skills shortages and the impact of changes to National Insurance and the minimum wage. The visit reinforced the group’s commitment to ensuring that the voice of Sandwell businesses is heard at the highest levels.

Ambassadors also supported business development closer to home. In June, members took part in the King’s Award for Enterprise Masterclass at Sandwell College, sharing lived experience and practical guidance to encourage more local businesses to apply for one of the UK’s most prestigious business awards.

Driving social impact and partnership working

The Ambassadors continued to engage with civic partners throughout the year to support wider social outcomes. In August, SBA Chair Alan Taylor met with the High Sheriff of the West Midlands to explore how business leaders can play a greater role in supporting the justice system, helping offenders back into employment and creating opportunities for care leavers.

These conversations reflect the Ambassadors’ shared belief that business growth should go hand in hand with positive community impact.

Welcoming new Ambassadors

2025 also saw the Sandwell Business Ambassadors network grow, with two new members joining the group.

Mark Wildman, Head of Operations at KORE Sandwell, joined the Ambassadors following a strong year for the organisation, including being shortlisted for three national UKactive Awards. Mark brings valuable experience in leisure, wellbeing and community-focused services, strengthening links between the council, local businesses and residents.

We also welcomed Sean Jackson, Head of Membership at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce. Sean plays a key role in supporting businesses across the region, connecting them with advice, networks and opportunities. His passion for championing business needs and strengthening collaboration makes him a strong addition to the Ambassador network.

Celebrating Sandwell’s business success stories

This year marked the opening of the new West Bromwich Indoor Markets, bringing renewed energy to the town centre. A standout moment was the return of the much-loved Firkins bakery. Firkins’ owner, Rob Green, is one of our Sandwell Business Ambassadors, and the bakery’s return highlights the power of local entrepreneurship and community loyalty.

Stories like this reflect the heritage and ambition of Sandwell businesses and the important role they play in shaping our town centres.

Looking ahead to 2026

As we head into the New Year, the Sandwell Business Ambassadors remain committed to supporting businesses, influencing policy and working with partners to create a thriving local economy.

From all of us, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to continuing to work with you in 2026.
